Hahaha awwww I love this picture! And the moment with the barista lolol and I can totally picture you.
Conflicting messages here! You "don't want opinions" and "Advice welcome."
So here is a list of names, because it's fun and who cares?? You know where I stand. Caroline and Kate both have the hard "C" sound, so that's where I'm headed because constraints make it easier.
Casey Dorge
Kevin Dorge
Clayton Dorge
Kai Dorge
Kehlani Dorge (we met a family in Hawaii who's daughter was that name and we thought it was so cute)
I love this topic! Everyone has an opinion on how to properly name a baby.
For our three girls, we had three rules, two said (and one unsaid), which IMO worked out pretty well.
1) It had to be familiar.
ie, people would reasonably know how to say it and spell it. No transposed letters or unique spellings.
2) It couldn’t be popular.
We looked at the top 100 baby names from the prior five years - all those names were out.
3) No alliterations or repeated or rhyming sounds.
This was my unsaid rule. I wasn’t hiding it - I just didn’t know how to describe it (then). My wife loved the name Liam for a boy, but I vetoed it because the M in Liam would blend into the M of McNayr. No bueno. She also loved the name Claire but that was out too, for obvious reasons (say it). I think this stems from my feelings about my own name which has a repeated “ck” sound in Alec and Mc. I have issues. HELP ME
Jokes on us on rule #2 tho - the following year, each of our girls’ names were on the new top 100 baby names list. We did the same thing everyone did. We’re basic.
Hahaha we had some rules too. One was similar to yours in how the first name sounds with the last name (safest approach is to end their first names with a vowel; we did it for one but not the other). Also, I thought we named our son the most unique name ever, and the following year it became popular. So, we are also basic.
THIS is great! Claire McNayr would have followed her forever... good call LOL. Thanks for this insight too- I think I need to write another name essay and get everyone's rules gathered, I'm LOVING this topic!
So stoked for you and love this topic 😂💕we also figured it out in the hospital room! I swore Elena was gonna be a Julian so we had some serious thinking to do that day when a girl popped out!
You have no idea how disappointed I was when I read the subtitle "advice welcome", because judging by the title, I was so ready to learn the philosophy or practical steps of naming a human, even though I'm not in the place to do that myself right now. If you crack the code, I can't wait to read the article on it haha!

Thanks, Charlie. Laughed at 'because it's fun and who cares' could totally hear your voice when I read that LOL.

Haha, Diana! I'm sorry to have let you down!
Honestly, after I figure out the name for this one, I'm going to come back and write a How to name a human, practical advice.
And just act confident as hell that I knew EXACTLY what I was doing!!
